"Turdus migratorius"

This is undoubtedly one of our most well known birds.

It was voted our favourite bird too.

It was voted our national bird on 15th December 1960

Easily identified by its bright red breast and lovely song it is often seen on Christmas cards.

They are territorial birds and despite their size

will drive away intruders

They eat seeds, worms, insects, invertebrates and fruit.

They measure 14cm in length

They have a wingspan of 20 to 22cm

They weigh in at between 14 and 21g

They can be seen all year round.

Juvenile Robins have a brown breast and only develop the red one after the first moult.
