Red Crowned Crane

“Grus japonensis”

The Red Crowned Crane is among the rarest cranes in the world. It is an endangered species.

They are named due to the red patch of skin on the crown.

They are 150 to 158cm in length

They have a wingspan of 220 to 250cm

They weigh in at 4.8 to 10.5kg.

They lay 2 eggs but only one survives.

They eat rice, parsley, carrots, acorns, fish, mammals and ducklings. There are estimated to be 2,750 in the wild
