"Phoenicopterus roseus"


This large bird measures 110 to 150cm in length
It weighs in at around 2 to 4kg.
They have a wingspan of between 95 to 100cm.
. They are pinkish white with red coverts and
black flight feathers.
The colouration comes from the carotenoid pigments in the organisms that live in the feeding grounds.
They are omnivores.
Their bills are black tipped with a downward bend.
They eat plankton, fish, and larvae.
They can live for 50 years
The adults have very few predators although the primary threat is bacteria and toxins and pollution from manufacturing companies.
