Dartford Warbler

"Sylvia undata"

This small dark long tailed warbler’s numbers have declined due to severe winters and is now an Amber list species. There were only a few pairs back in the 60s and has gradually recovered.

It perches on the top of a gorse bush to sing.

Not however when I go to look for one!

They eat insects and other invertebrates.

They measure 12 to 13cm in length.

They have a wingspan of 13 to 18cm.

They weigh in at just 9 to 12g.

There are estimated to be 3,200 breeding pairs in the uk.
