A small wader with brown upper parts and white underparts is seen along rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and lochs.

Often seen on wetlands as it bobs up and down.

They are green/brown above

with a white belly and brown rump.

They have a short grey bill and green legs.

They are between 19 and 22cm in length.

They have a wingspan of 40cm.

They weigh in at around 50g.

The average lifespan is 8 years.

They eat insects spiders molluscs crustaceans and fish and frogs.

It nests on the ground

They are amber listed but can be seen all year round.
