Cattle Egret

"Bubulcus ibis"

The Cattle Egret is a little smaller than the Little Egret but much rarer.

They spend time with cattle and sheep to feed on insects their hooves disturb.

It is a rare breeding bird and is around 50cm in length and has a wingspan of 92cm. It weighs in at somewhere between 300 and 400g. They eat crickets and grasshoppers as well as frogs and ticks.they are m mainly white with yellow bills. They lay between 3 and 5 light green to pale blue eggs.

Chicks are white and at 2 to 3 weeks can climb out of the nest. By 6 weeks or so they are totally independent and by 50 days will be able to fly.
