Bufflehead

The Bufflehead is a small sea duck with quite a large head.It is seen in estuaries and reservoirs and lakes. The male is a stunning looking bird with glossy purple and green with a white patch on its head. They spend half their time under water. They nest in holes in trees. They are monogamous and live mainly in North America but in winter can be seen in the British Isles.
They are around 32 to 40cm in length and have a wingspan 55cm. They weigh in at between 270 and 635g
